Motivational quotes have become my touchstones, along with prayer. They guide me along the journey, constant reminders that life holds a plethora of meanings, and my current reality does not define me.
Henry Thoreau said something that I keep tacked on my refrigerator, and look at from time to time: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.” While this all sounds empowering, your pragmatic side may wonder (like mine), how can one break this down concretely, and really live this principle, essentially, embody it?
Well, we must move beyond those barriers erected which prevent us from living our dreams, our truth. In my case, I decided that this morning, I would not allow anyone or anything to prevent me from updating this blog, or writing and reading because these activities are my oxygen. They fuel me mentally, and when I deny myself this outlet, I suffer.
We often think of dreams as having an expiration date, but they do not. Instead dreams are cues, reminders that if we settle for what we do not want, life remains mundane and uninspired.
Each day, I am beginning to push back that inner voice, and sometimes accompanying depression, which says, it’s over for you, give up. There is power in dreams, in awakening to the beauty of our individual gifts and talents, so dream and then act. The world is waiting for us.
