Gratitude is on my mind lately, and not just because Thanksgiving is 5 minutes away. Struggle will do that to you. It humbles you, reminds you this is all a gift, each breath.
Few musicians acknowledge subtle everyday beauty more lucidly than Michael Franti. The man is a poet, an architect of profound yet simple lyrics, socially conscious without being condescending.
He started his career decades ago making thoughtful hip-hop music. Today his work as lead singer of Spearhead isn’t so easily categorized as one sound, but rather a rhythmic blend of rock, funk, hip-hop and folk.
The latest CD, All People, urges me to breath deeply, smile and hold on to gratitude, even when its hard and saying thank you seems pointless. Yes. I hear you sighing over there. Trust me, I understand! We don’t always feel it, but if you step back from your problems and see promise and possibility, you will feel a calming sense of gratefulness.
